Rice Is Life

As a child growing up in a developing country – PNG – for over 18 years, it was rice I ate every single day. Even now that I am living in Indonesia, I have it pretty much at least 5 times a week. (I know right?!) Rice is life for most people who live in Asia. White glorious rice.

Rice has this ability to feed the nation. It allows us to survive in different countries around the world. Unfortunately, it has been picked on and unfairly criticised by the wellness industry, and more often than not, you will hear people say rice is poisonous, or rice is going to kill you, or rice will make you fat! This way of thinking really saddens me. There are also so many different arguments about rice – like comparing white rice to other coloured rice and so on.

MAJOR DISCLAIMER here – we are all not created equal! My microbiome is all my own, so as to how you have your own. I have known people who have been eating rice all their lives and have lived up to more than a hundred years old! The key is to feel into your body and work out what’s right for you. For me? I feel amazing when I eat rice. For other people, it equates to power because rice gives them energy. It doesn’t give me that spike, doesn’t make me feel lethargic, nor does it make me fat. It suits my individual fingerprint which is my gut microbiome.

It Is All About Individuality

Why do some of us have this feeling towards rice like it is evil? Yes, a lot of us cannot eat it – it makes them crash or it makes them fat. It is really an individual thing. But to pick on it, like it’s wrong, this is really not fine with me. I live in a country where rice is life. So depending on the culture, your microbiome, and your footprint on the planet, let us just celebrate the fact that a lot of countries and a lot of cultures love rice!

I would say let it go. Let it flow. Do what’s right for you, and there is no food fight here.
