Keep Your Relationship With Nature & Food Alive!

The fast pace of the societies we live in makes us find shortcuts to make our lives easier and stress-free. However, while it’s great to keep things simple and easy (you know I’m all for this), it leaves us in danger of forgetting about things integral to our beings. Yes, I’m talking about our relationship with nature and food.

Travelling Back To The Essence Of Cooking

I had an extraordinary trip to one of the Indonesian villages to visit my friend Ibu Niluh. It’s amazing how our bodies and senses start awakening the closer we get to nature. My entire being was overwhelmed with the feeling of peace and belonging the entire day.

Although my visit was filled with so many highlights, what really brought back a myriad of food memories from childhood was open fire. The crackling of burning twigs, the warmth I felt on my face while sitting close to the fire… It was magical!

Ibu Niluh is such a great cook who keeps inspiring me to make simple yet delicious and wholesome meals. However, I was not there to observe – Ibu Niluh had a task for me! I sat there on the floor, in my full zen mode, chopping veggie after veggie while the rain was pattering on the roofs. And you know what – it felt good! It felt as if the whole world slowed down for a moment and gave me time to appreciate the food that was in front of me, to really be part of this transformative journey our ingredients go through – from a seed to a fresh produce and then to our tables.

Slow Down & Be Part Of The Journey!

If plants could talk imagine what incredible stories they could tell! It’s truly an extraordinary journey that we often forget to acknowledge. What’s even more, the food we eat carry so much energy with them – energy from the soil they grow in, from the nourishing rain and caring farmers’ hands…

Thus, I’d ask you one thing: from time to time, take a moment to appreciate the journey your food goes through before it reaches your kitchen and nourishes your body. It’s such an easy thing to do to keep that primal relationship with nature and food strong yet we let the noise of everyday hustle and bustle drown it down. This is the message that I also try to convey to all of you beautiful souls who join my online cooking classes.

There are so many food stories from all over the world just waiting for someone to tell them. I’ll be impatiently waiting for you at my YouTube channel – tell me your story – how do you keep your connection with food and nature alive?

With love from my kitchen to yours,

Chef Cynthia Louise xx
