There is something epic when you make your own nut butters. I just love that “OMG it’s that simple” look on people’s faces when I show them how to make nut butters, it’s priceless. The main statement is “thank goodness we can make this at home”. So, this is How To Make Your Own Nut Butter At Home!
As you’ll see, it is super simple, and I’m so eager to show you how to make your own nut butter at home.
You can basically make this gooey goodness with any kind of nuts – cashews, walnuts, hazelnuts, brazil nuts, even pistachios or sesame seeds (Tahini). One of my favourites is almonds. You will need just one ingredient – almonds –
Yep, The ONE ingredient needed to make almond butter is… almonds #genius.
Grab a bunch of raw almonds and spread them onto a tray. I like to roast them at 160C / 320F for 10 -15 minutes. I check them after 10 minutes, and if they are roasted but still don’t have that roasted crunch I want, I turn down the temperature a bit and roast them for 5-10 minutes more.
Feel free to experiment, take them out, smell, check the colour and decide when the nuts have that flavour you want your nut butter to have. When they are done, I leave them to cool completely before I start making that brownish golden butter.
Time To Gather The Kids And Blend Those Roasted Nuts Into Lovely Fresh Nut Butter
Now that you have roasted your nuts, here comes the fun part. I just put those roasted almonds into my Vitamix (I used the dry jug) and blend until I get that gorgeous almond butter. It took me only 2-3 minutes, can you imagine that?
Then I pop it in a jar, and that’s all.
As there is no water content in it, you can store it in a fridge or on a shelf and it will keep for a long time, just like peanut butter.
If you don’t have Vitamix, don’t panic. I made nut butters at home before with a standard household blender. It will take you more time because you’ll have to stop, scrape the sides, and then blend again, but the end result will be the same – crunchy or smooth.
So, choose your favorite nuts, roast them, gather the kids and have fun to make nut butters at home. OMG, I started salivating thinking about a piece of essene bread, topped with a generous scoop of this nut butter and drizzled with honey and tahini.
